Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Policy Officer to join our Government Relations office in Brussels. In this role, you will primarily focus on leading and supporting strategic projects in the EMEA region. You will work closely with our business colleagues, leveraging embassies, government channels, and international organizations to enhance our business growth. Additionally, you will engage with regulators and national governments to open new market opportunities and promote our company's capabilities. This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the success of our market growth initiatives and engage in government relations activities across multiple sectors and regions. Finally, the role will cover the entirety of Smiths’ end-sectors but have a particular focus on our engineering related activities (energy, space, and other industrial sectors where Smiths Group is present).

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead and support market growth projects and campaigns in the EMEA region. This includes – but not limited to – set up innovative lobbying strategies, lead engagements with a variety of external and internal stakeholders, achieve tangible results in line with your objectives.
  • Work closely with European Commission, embassies, government agencies, and international organizations to maintain and develop the company’s institutional network, thereby facilitating campaigns, initiatives, and advocacy efforts aligned with our business objectives.
  • Engage with regulators and national governments to identify and seize new market opportunities, promoting our company's capabilities and expertise linked to products and projects.
  • Support engagements across our four divisions, which imply being able to lead and coordinate advocacy activities across a variety of sectors and geographies.
  • Stay informed about relevant regulations, policies, and industry trends potentially impacting Smiths’ operations, products or end-markets.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Sales, Legal, and Marketing, to align government relations activities with broader business strategies.
  • Utilize project management tools to ensure effective planning, execution, and monitoring of projects.

The Individual

  • Master's degree in Project Management, EU Affairs, Political Science or a related field.
  • At least 3 years relevant professional experience in government relations, regulatory affairs. Specific knowledge of the Energy sector is an asset.
  • Strong interest and knowledge in engineering and ability to link policies and regulations with concrete business objectives/outcomes.
  • Outstanding analytical skills including the ability to understand complex and varied policies and a solid business mindset enabling you to identify business risks and opportunities
  • Ability to take initiatives and think “out of the box” to solve challenges and unlock new opportunities for the company
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Positive and can-do attitude in line with Smiths ethics and values
  • Strong organizational skills, capable of managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal proficiency in English. Proficiency in an additional EMEA language is an asset.
